About Us: Our People
Bringing the Tesoros of Ecuador products to you involves collaboration and teamwork from a number of people. All of our products are handmade and come from all over Ecuador. Most of the artisans run family operated businesses and sell their products in local markets and small retail outlets. Many of our clients have never been to Ecuador, which makes Tesoros of Ecuador a dream come true for us. We're delighted to be able to bring you unique and handmade products that you otherwise would not be able to find.
Along with our people in Canada, the most important members of the team are the artisans, craftsmen and women who imagine, design and create our products. Most of our tagua products are created in a very small village near the Pacific coast in Ecuador. Located in the mid-sized, coastal province of Manabi is a place called Sosote. Sosote (pronounced “so-SO-teh") has become very well known as the tagua capital of Manabi (and possibly all of Ecuador). There are at least 50 tagua workshops in Sosote that support almost 100 families. They produce tagua jewelry that is generally sold in local markets, but now can be shipped all over the world.
We visit our artisans in Sosote on a regular basis, which is always fun and fruitful. It brings us so much joy to be able to order thousands of pieces at a time, which keeps them busy for weeks on end. We’re constantly coming up with new designs, better ways of latching/clasping the jewelry and different combinations to make up unique sets.
